I have a 2005 F250 6.0 Supercrew 4X4. The truck is 12 months old with 13000 miles. It has never been abused and has always been on the blacktop.

I just noticed that the rear end cover appears to be rusted and the paint is pealing. It almost looks as if is has heated to an extreme temp and peeled the paint allowing it to rust.<O
My question is this, normal or not and if not what could be causing this?<O></O>
Its normal they all rust.If you think its heat related put it on level ground chk the fluid level. But get out the black rustolem and a wire brush.
We all have the same problem.

I noticed when mine was newer that it seemed the paint was bubbling off from heat. I changed the fluid and it looked and smelled awful. I cleaned my cover up, painted it, and it's all screwed up again (many many thousands of miles and a couple fluid changes later). I may get a Mag-Hytec diff cover for it and be done with it since that would probably hold more fluid and it won't rust as bad either.
i had the same problem. cleaned it up .high heat primer and high heat gloss black i had laying around with a few coats of clear .it's still ok .thats on my 95 f150 . my 05 has a alloy cover and i don't feel it's worth the dollars it cost.
