I want the biggest fuel tank there is for my 54 model pickup. wondering which one is the largest that i can just bolt right up without any modifications?
Here is a photo of what I did on my 55'. It is out of a Ch%vy Van. Other than drilling holes to mount it was a no modification install. If you are interested in more photos let me know.

would love to have more info and pictures on this setup. thanks in advance!!
I recently heard that a mid 80's K5 Blazer tank will fit our Ford trucks. I just found a used one on CraigsList for $25.00 and it's a 30 gallon tank, but I have to go pull it.

wish you could pull me one too. please let me know if it works. but still 22 gallons would be enough for me. just need a setup where i can bolt it in. I have 0.00 fab skills.
Yes, the Blazer tanks will fit nicely, they come in two sizes one approx 24 gallons and a larger one that is about 32 gallons.
80 to 86 should cover the years pretty good
I used the Blazer tank in my 49. A friend had given me the tank for free. I went to the wrecking yard and got the sending unit, straps, and filler neck and hoses. I bolted in a couple of x-members; 2 for the straps, and 2 for the tank to get pressed up against. Fairly simple all around. I'm not sure what I'm doing with the filler neck yet. I have it exiting towards the passenger side, the filler hose will fit between the top of the frame and the bottom of the bed. I am contemplating addding a guel filler door into my passenger rear fender.
They have direct replacement tanks for just about everything, and brand new for reasonable prices. The Suburban and Blazer tanks can be as big as 32 gallons. This site does not have dimensions for the tanks so you will need to know what tank you want. A new tank gets you away from the debris/dirt in the tank problems and any potential damage from a junkyard tank.
For my F1 I haven't decided on which tank to use, but it will be a NEW tank and not a used tank with unknown problems.
Also if you are planning on running E85, the 85% ethanol blend fuel do not use one of the tanks for gastanks.com. These tanks are standard replacement tanks made form tern-plated steel. This is a tin-based plating for corrosion-resistance. This plating is NOT compatible with E85! All the flex-fueled vehicles that can run on E85, by Ford, GM and Chrysler are using polyethelyene tanks. Most standard gas tanks by the major manufacturers are tern-plated steel. So when planning on running E85, its just not the gaskets, rubbers and similar materials that are not compitable with the E85.
Travis, The application/interchange for this tank is 77-82 Chevy/GMC Van. It is the 21 gallon tank. There is a 33 gallon tank that is also an option. Check in my gallery and you shoudl see more photos.
LakeCityg I have .00257% Fab skills that is one of the reason I have this tank in mine.
Capacity: 31 gallons Dimensions: 28-3/4" x 28-1/8" x 12-3/4"
the price was $123.00 that's a good deal for a new tank... head the ethanol thingy though
later

John,
I missed the dimensions on my quick trip to the site. Ooops!!! My bad.
I threw in the E85 part so people who aren't aware of it know about it. With gas prices going up again, the E85 issue will come up again and again. I've looked at the E85 materials compatiability issue because I'm thinking of what I want to do with my '48 F1. The suspension comes first before the drive train so its mostly thinking for planning ahead. Changing things once they are done is expensive.
