speedometer cable
my 70 custom needs a new speedometer cable. I am new to fixing trucks but not to using wrenches (rebuild motor on dirtbike) i need step by step instructions on how to take the old on out and the new on in. Thanx

If you are replacing the entire cable assembly, unscrew the speedometer end. You can usually just reach up and do it without a wrench. The other end is held in the transmission by a 1/4" bolt. Remove the bolt and it will pull out. Put the plastic gear on the new cable.
Because the cable has a square end, you may have to turn it slightly to get it to go back in the speedometer. It is an easy job to do.

somthing to check before you replace cable, unscrew it from transmission and turn cable at that end and have someone watch your speedometer to see if it moves. My reason for this is my speedometer has not worked in my last two old ford trucks.68 250 camper special, 69 150 custom cab, and both times it was a little gear in the transmission were the cable goes in. So you might check this first.
