Notorious Cup Thrower!!

For those that have changed their cup thrower to the later model style... It appears that my interior color costs twice as much as every other color for replacing my cup thrower. Is it possible to remove the faceplate on my old style cup thrower and install it on the new style holder? It looks like there are two very small screws on either side of the faceplate on the old style, but I'm not sure if the new cup holder faceplate mounts the same as the old style. Has anyone done this?
1999 SD Lariat V10 CC 105K and still going strong!!!

Try doing a search. I have read where a couple of the gys have done this. I'm assuming you talking about the slide out cup holder

What color do you have? I paid $52 for new at the dealer a month ago or so. I chucked the old one and didnt look at how the faceplate attaches.

I think it's called Prarie Tan. I know that it sells for about $100 compared to the grey colored one that sells for about $50!

I have the Prairie Tan and switched the faceplates. They don't swap very easily and the fit and finish once swapped is only ok.

I think the prairie tan replacement from the dealer may come with a can of prairie tan spray paint or the gray is just painted.

Let me know what you figure out b/c I would like to improve the fit possibly fork over the $100.

The engineer that designed the 99 style cupholder needs a real round of applause. It is a cup thrower.

Wilbur, Check out the above link. It will show you the new cupholder. Yes, it is very different from the 99 in design (But still directly fits).

The "prairie tan" color on the 99's is more of a brown I guess than the "parchment" of the 2000-up trucks that have a "tan" interior. You're right that the '99 tan cupholders are $100+, and I believe they're the same on Ebay. I recently searched on ebay for the newer cupholders for my 2000, and found that even on Ebay they charge more for the 99 tan ones.

Your best bet is probably to repaint it, or live with it not matching, or fork over the dough for the proper color one. You could possibly epoxy the faceplate from the older cuplauncher onto the newer cupholder. Kinda sucks, I know... but the newer cupholder is 10x better, and worth it if it keeps you from spilling your drink at the slightest turn.

They work so much better than the four little styrofoam flaps. Plus, you get another ash tray or change holder right there, so the main ash tray (replaced by the hookthingamabobber on later trucks) can be used for even more ashes, change, or other such stuff.

Thanks! That cup holder looks much better. So can I assume that if I have Light Praire Tan Exterior I have the Med Praire Tan interior? Does anyone know the interior code? I will look on the door tag tonight.

Who thinks of these names for colors anyway?

Thanks!

I have 06 250 SD and the cup holder is not the ejector. This one works very well even with big mugs. looking at the color of the picture on line it looks the same as mine. The code on interior on mine is H tan in a XLT trim. Check that out at your Ford dealership. The vehicle will not matter on my 97 250 I wanted to put grab handles in for me and my parents they had a Explorer and the gray interior and I orderd those handles and they matched my truck interior perfect. do some looking at the Ford lot and I think you will find the match.
