Another Truck - Same Problems?

Hey everyone!

It has been some time since I made a post. I apologize for that. After a long time I gave up, caved in and bought a 1999 Ford F350 XLT with a V10. It is much different than what I was used to. I had the truck for three weeks now. I have another slight acceleration problem with this truck too! I am scared to tell anyone I know, because they are going to make fun of me for purchasing another Ford. I really don't feel like hearing it. I absolutely love the truck!

The situation I have is this:

When I accelerate up to where it shifts into OD, everything is fine. If for some reason I have to slow up, that's where the problems start. If it doesn't downshift, it will sputter or start to buck as I gradually accelerate. When I first bought the truck, I tried to listen/look for these things, but I didn't notice anything. I did accelerate the same way without OD, but it didn't seem to be an issue. Instead of complaining to the dealer right away, I figured I would ask if this had been an issue with anyone before. The truck has 77k miles on it. What is the deal?

the tranny might be a little sluggish and need a flush and fill and maybe an engine tune up might make it perk up a little bit

worst case the torque converter is going bad

You have a miss my friend... Take it to the dealer, they can put it on the dyno and tell which cylinder is missing. The same thing happened to me twice. Once it was the plugs at 70k and then I lost a COP at 82k. Your truck seems to idle fine, then only under load or acceleration it starts the "bucking". It doesn't matter what gear you're in.

I'll bet after 77k the COP's boots are cracked and need replacement. Would'nt hurt to change them, as a matter of fact, you need to change them each time you change the plugs (at around 60K miles). I had a miss on mine and turned out a couple of boots were cracked and arching.

I did a flush and fill on the trans. I also added a bottle of Techron for injector cleaning. At first, I did notice a slight difference, but still no real change. You just have to go a little slower in OD. Drop her down to 40-45 mph, and she will give you a few quick thumps until you get going. I am in the process of doing a tune-up. I will update everyone after I've completed that.

I have a question, though. How many "Ft. Lbs" of torque should be applied to the Spark plugs? I have a 3/8 drive Snap-on click type - but it's listed in ft lbs not inch lbs.

Any Clue?

14 ft/lbs. Make sure you lightly coat the threads w/anti-seize.
