My WTS light comes on some times but not all the times when it should? I have read a lot of threads before asking, but still puzzeled...first of all I have 1 bad glow plug [tested all with test light], replacing bad plug tomorrow. Batteries are good, cleaned ground off controller, good connection, relay and controller are near new, some times I turn the key and the WTS lights up [short cylce cause of the one bad plug] other times nothing at all? I have a 86 with no problems at all, the weather is cool enough so the controller should kick in. I am tempted to swap the relay and contoller from my 86 to the 84. A little bit of background history, I have recently had air conditioning installed on the 84 during the summer of 2005, thats when glow plug system starting acting up, I know air conditioning has nothing to do with the glow plugs, I firgured they just burnt out one of the plugs constantly turning on the ignition. Have not driven it during the winter, but just put it back on the road, SORRY FOR THE LONG READ but Im stumped!!

Wondering if when they did the install of AC. They might have loosened some of GP wiring. Check all the GP wiring anywhere near the AC hoses, wires etc.
Thanks Bigred, Ill check that out, but if memory serves me right all a/c hoses run from the compressor over to and along top of the firewall, no where near glow plug wireing.
There are several possibilities the Wait Lamp Latching relay being one of them, even the power relay or controller.. Those systems are known to stick on and burn up GPs that is why members install push button control and timings 5-8 seconds. Also only use Beru/Motorcraft GPs available at Azone $10.
I wish we had Azone up here in Canada, Ford wants $25.00 a pop for them, when I laughed and said I would be going elseware, the parts guy took pity on me and said I could have it for $20.00...what a deal. Anyways I have the bad plug soaking in penatrating oil and I think I will try the relay and or the controller from my 86 see if that makes a difference, I just cant understand why this happening, theres a weak link some where, thats why I dont want to go with manual switch then again I might just have to! I will be working on it Tuesday, Ill let you know.
TJC, thanks for the imput, the closest one to me is in Lywood Wa. We are going across the line soon, just purchased a membership to Beachwood Resort in Birch Bay Wa.
Well its Tuesday morning, coffee in hand, I turn on the ignition...no WTS light, on off on off on off...nothing...turned the ignition enuogh to engage starter for a couple of seconds, turned off then on turned on, WTS light comes on...whats with that? Could it be the ignition switch...no power to the controller? But then why would it work after engaging the starter? Stumped!

check all the connections at the gp controller, and at the solanoid. it sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere. i doubt it would be at the ignition switch.
Well I pulled the bad plug with no problems at all, a night sitting in penatrating oil worked like magic! Rechecked all the wiring, I dont know what I did but seems to work fine! Turn the ignition on, WTS lighted up for the proper duration and fired right up, Im happy but still stumped! By the way Bigred, the ground to the block or the battery was on the list to do if I couldnt get it working.
I said **** on it with my glow plugs and wired them straight up to a starter solenoid and a push button switch. Then they still didnt work good so I now have a button on my dash that squirts ether into my intake. Now it starts reliably, just w/ a little smoke.
