This is my first post. I own '01 F250 super duty crew, short box, V10. Am thinking about buying 5th wheel camper, dry wt is 8880, gvwr is 11900. My p/u weighs in at 7150. I am looking for feedback on mpg while towing. Expect the 5th wheel to gross at about 10500. Will appreciate some guidelines, gas here is $2.62 gal. Thanks

If your truck has the 3.73 rear end and isn't a 4x4 I believe it's rated to tow a 10,600# fifth wheel. If you have the 4.10 rear (which you probably don't have) I believe it's rated for 13,600. The problem you will probably have is with the weight on your fifth wheel hitch. Assuming your trailer does weight 10,500# your pin weight is probably somewhere between 1,000 And 1,600# (maybe more). You can see you're probably going to be over your GVWR. That's not to say your truck couldn't do it , but it's not rated to do what you're looking to do. I know that's not what you're asking but I just thought I'd throw this out there.

Thanks for the reply. The 5th wheel mfgr. advertises hitch weight of 1785. I was pretty sure I would be over Fords GCVWR of 17K. The math says I can do 9850 lbs on the camper. Not much wiggle room for stuff and all tanks need to be empty. Presently I pull a 25 ft travel trailer and get 9-10 mpg. Without a load I 11 city and as high as 13 hwy. I don't want to push the truck to it's limits then I'll have to get a bigger horse, darn. I think I'm in divorce court then. thanks again Forgot this, I have 3.73 ratio and 4x4, off road pkg and sno plow pkg. I will also be shedding the weight of an alum topper.
