Going to take the truck to the strip this wednesday or friday and wanted to get some opininions on what is best way to launch these trucks from the experts who run their trucks on here. I will be in 120 mode....so powerbrake,if so to what rpm? 4wd?, 2wd?, turn off 4wd right after launch?, keep it in 4wd all way down?, etc etc etc.......Look forward to some responses.
4wd hi, power brake it up to around 20psi and hang on. you dont need to take it out of 4wd because even if you flip the switch it will not come out until you let off the throttle
That's it. 4x4 hi. Roll up to the first set of staging lights, put your foot hard on the brake, then lay into the throttle to build the boost. That will probably creep the truck into the second set of staging lights, but if not you'll have to let it crawl just a bit. Build the boost, and as soon as the final set of yellows come on, take off. It will take a bit for the truck to move, so you shouldn't redlight.
Some will claim that it's hard on it to run it down the strip in 4 wheel drive, and to an extent that's probably correct. But, there have been many trucks that have done it in the past. I just hope your transmission is up to the task...that's a quick way to send one to the rebuild shop. Unless you have an aftermarket one, then you should be fine.
Thanks guys....tranny should be ok....just plan on doing one or 2 runs....its a new tranny with BD accumator in it.......so should be good. Just trying to beat the blistering 17.3 @ 79 mph it did when it was stock lol Any range or estimates of what it should run now?
leave as soon as the third yellow bulb lights up, if not your reaction time will suck. Also, definately use 4hi, don't use 2wd unless you want to fry the tires when you drop the brake...... trust me, I've done it. My 2wd will smoke the tires thru 3rd gear if I launch it at anything above 1200rpms.
JT Harvey...sorry about that.....6637, MBRP 4inch full exhaust with muffler, AIH plug,Wicked wheel, dp tuner stock, 40,80, 120 chip, guages, and tranny mod i said in previous post......thats about it.
And bowedup2003....thanks...but just so you know reaction times have nothing to do with et, so not worried about that. Time dont start until i move out of beams.
l Also, definately use 4hi, don't use 2wd unless you want to fry the tires when you drop the brake...... trust me, I've done it. Bowedup
Yea I was so excited to be at the track the last time I went - I totally forgot to pull it in 4x4 for my first run - I STILL have rubber on the rear fenderwells!!

I'd guess the mid to high 15's - the best time I ran with my truck with those similar mods was 15.8. I gotta get to the track again soon and see what my turbo, tranny mods, and Jody's chip give me!
With what you have listed, I'm gonna guess high 15's to mid 16's.
Do you have the waste gate unplugged? MAP line regulator or BRV? Exhaust backpressure code eliminator? CCV mod?
I have wg plugged in, ITP map line regulator, no exhaust backpressure code eliminator...but a new sensor, no ccv mod. And as an update....i did a few pulls in 120 here lately and seem to be only getting 24 psi. So def down on power for some reason...yet throwing no ses light. Thinking probably a boost leak with the stock IC boots. Any inputs?
Unplug your wastegate. That will be the first thing that limits boost. You still shouldn't throw a code with the MAP regulator. It's still going to de-fuel because of high exhaust backpressure, but you should still see some improvement.
