engine died

06 stx 4x4 4,600 miles, was driving home from a 300 mile trip when I was stoped in a turning lane to turn and the engine completely shut off. Had plenty of gas, dont know why it shut off, kinda bothers me though. check gauges displayed on dash. has anyone else experienced this on a newer truck yet. I know there is a recall to reprogram the instrument cluster, but I havnt gotten it done yet, could that be a reason for why it died like that?

it could be as simple as a loose battery connection.....hopefully.

my truck (04 FX4) died a couple months after i bought it. after spending 2 weeks in the shop the dealership finally traced it down to the problem i said it was. The fuel pump was not getting any power. Turns out, some plug under the truck in the wiring harness from the computer to the fuel pump shorted out. I have not had any other issues since they replaced that wiring harness. of course they replaced everything else up to that point because they evidently did not know how to use a voltmeter to see where the power was being lost.

To check for a similar problem, turn the truck to the Run position (without cranking) and try to listen for your fuel pump. If it is working, you should hear a whine as it primes the fuel lines.

I've had two Fords this has happened with, an 04 F-150 and an 05 Five Hundred. The F-150 turned out to be a throttle body which I believe there is a TSB on. They also reflashed and since then no problems. The Five Hundred needed a reflash and it has had no other problems either.

thanks for the info. could bad gas or watered down gas have possibly been a reason for why something with the fuel pump isnt working properly? When I take my truck in should I tell them to check the fuel pump and or possibly get a reflash, or should I just tell them how the truck is acting up? With this truck being a lease,(technically still owned by ford), would they maybe be more inclined to fix it correctly and not beat around the bush? thanks for the feedback

At a minimum, I'd be taking it to a dealer. See if there are any codes in the computer memory. That way at least your on the books in case there are future warranty issues.
