going old school here i have an old 1987 for ranger 2.0 carb eng with a dura spark 2 ignition. i am not recieving any spark off the coil (and yes i have replaced it 3 times wioth this) i am getting power to both the red and green wires but the green wire is not pulsing like it should. i have replaced the micro computer, the icm, the distributor, the coil, traced wires to look for breaks and i am completely stumped. if anyone can think of anything that could help this PLEASE let me know u woukld be fixing multiple cars because i also have an 83 amc and my cousins 87 ranger all with the exact same problem and it is getting very expensive
Is the icm mounted on the distributor or is it a 5 inch square box on the inner fender panel. Duraspark II should be the latter. There has to be power on the white wire going into the box. The wires actullay cross colors at this plug the white wire will be hot in the run position and the red will be hot in the start postition these cloros are on the module side. There are a number of drawing avaliable on the web for both systems.
it is the 5 inch box the white wire was not hot according to my test light but when i tried putting juice to it or even tried testing it as a ground it started turning over the engine and locked the silenoid so it wouldnt quit turning over if the white wire is the prob why would it cause that ya reckon. like i said it has me dumbfounded
They invented this new thing to use when writing. It is down there on the keyboard, just above the space bar. It makes a thingy that looks like this: .
Kinda small and hard to see, but people reading will be able to figure out a lot easier what you are trying to say. I'm just a'sayin....
Beyond that, any of the ford spark makers should make a spark when you turn the key from ON to OFF. I'd also note that the power source to the ignition is routed different when you are cranking. The ignition switch could be defective after 20 something years, and they are relatively cheap. You've replaced almost everything else, and given that there is gas in the carb, and the timing belt hasn't gone to rubber-band-land, you should be able to get it running.

well i do know what im doing for the most part i have checked fire with key off, on, and turning over inspwected belt i know there is gas but it dont matter because it is not getting spark. wont even fire off ether, checked the switch already its good. i checked all my p's and q's before i asked on here i even asked every local ford mechanic i know and they are dumbfounded. i dont care if i can fix so it wont pass any of yall's emmisiions i am from bama and they donty care here i drive all my cars with busted out cats and some no mufflers. smoking like a chimney sometimes.i just need it running, i run a landscaping business and i am being hurt without a truck, hurt bad. thanx

your welcome sorry i dont have any more ideas oh wait i do did you check the grounds because it will not work very well if the swuare box is not grounded as the juice to and from the coil will not be able to go anywhere if the box is not grounded properly you can also check the ground to the block and also check to see if you have the right color grommet on the duraspark box as the wrong color will hook up but not work right and you want it to work right for sure because then you can get on with not checking your smog and blowing out cats and leaving blue clouds to kill all them skeeters

Reason: grammar
Here is diagram of the duraspark II system and yes if you put power on the white wire coing out of the module I would expect the starter to engage it is the start circuit. http://www.jason.fletcher.net/tech/d.../duraspark.htm
