Oil Leak Help!

Ok so here's the problem. I had an oil leak yesterday, and I took it too the mechanic. They just called me and said the fuel injection pump was leakin oil. Is that, can that be? They can't get the price o the pump until tommorw since they can only get if fromt he dealer. They did tell me though that the labor will be 240 dollars to replace it? Does this sound right?

They must mean the HPOP. U can replace the O rings yourself for a lot less
and buy a nice mod with the money saved instead.
O rings here(3rd from bottom of page):

i would clean the engine off yourself and make sure that is where the oil is leaking from. there is a lot of oil under high pressure in these engines. it could be from many things. $240 for labor is kinda pricy for an o-ring repair. just my opinion

Do you think it could just be the seals? The shop said it was the pump.

Those seals are a common failure point. Simple fix...can't make that much money off the fix if just replacing the seals.

Thanks I think I will tell the shop to hold off and replace the seals myself. I just need to get this up and running since I use my truck for work.

I want to add that i've never replaced mine but for someone who has it's probably simple. Not rocket science if u know what i mean. Oil pump, oil under BIG pressure, seals trying to hold it back...etc. Good luck!

Spirit615 - I had a bad HPOP leak, at about 20,000 miles, while I was still under warranty - and it was NOT just the O-rings - Ford replaced the whole pump!

I'm not saying that this shop is correct - but just putting it out there that it is possible that it does need to be replaced...

Cat...i have this theory that says that Ford corporate engineering sometimes has the dealer swap out parts like the HPOP so it can be analyzed for failure and since it's under warranty it's no skin off the owners back...i could be wrong though.

Yeah that makes more sense to me than my pump failing, especial since I have had a small leak since I got it.

Yeah, I know the pump could possibly be bad, but I figure a little more down time is worth it to possiblely save me alota of money. If the rings don't fix the problem then I am only out 30 bucks.

I had the leak before I had found this great site, so I didn't know any better on what to check for the leak. Just relaying what they did to my truck to fix it. I really have no idea what was actually leaking - but I do know that they really DID put a new pump on it.........

OK help me to be very clear about this, are the O-rings at the HPOP covered by the 5 yr/100,000 mi warranty ? Are any oil leaks covered?? Long story short I dont have any other warranty to go on. And as I have a small drip of a leak I was wondering if I could get it taken care of. Man ,it is dark under all that stuff to see the valley of the engine. I see the drip come off the bottom of the trans dust cover...
Thx

Ok. So I took it to a mechanic my friend uses , and he didn't wanna work on it becuase he doesn't know diesels. So me being the cheap ******* I am I decide to work on it myself. Well when I crawl up onto the engine. I look at the HPOP. No oil leak from the there. Hmmm. I feel aroudn the back of the HPOP and there is a bolt plug that is kinda loose. So i tightened it up and took it for a drive. NO MORE oil leak! Firestone wanted to charge me 1100 bucks to install a new oil pump. What a freakin scam! I am calling down there to give them a piece of my mind.
