I have been toying with the idea of swapping out the C4 for a standard trans. in my '72 302. Here are my questions:
-will the crank on my 302 have a hole for a pilot bushing being that it started out as an automatic?
-would the 302 have enough torque to turn an overdrive top gear (3.25 rear end)?
-I am running headers...will they interfere with the clutch linkage?
-would the frame have all the holes to locate the clutch linkage?
-would a 3 speed from an F-100 be the same length as the C4?
-am I crazy for even considering this?
hi you need to buy a brass bushing will fit 302 crank ..but you need petal assembly and clutch linkage and it bolts in ok..and drive shaft and steering clounm and cross member and....... you need a donor truck to swap parts ..... mm theres a jumper wire under hood on the drivers side near the cab .you need it to. mmmmmmm ive done this but both trucks were side by side........... hope this helps
I find 3.54's on my 72 w/ 4gear to be a bit to tall
to have good low end in top gear. But I'm used to 4.10's
and 3.73's so the "new" truck is a bit high for me.
I'd go through the hassle cause I'm not an auto fan.
