93 E350 purchase?

I am thinking of purchasing a 93 E350. The one I am considering currently has 139k on the clock and is a basic cargo van with the 7.3 diesel. After looking through some of the messages on here, it seems these vans are nearly indestructible and that expect another 140k wouldn't be out of line (if it was well taken care of.)

Some questions:

What are trouble spots with this engine?

What should I look for in general with this van in the way of problem areas?

What kind of fuel mileage can expect from this drivetrain (town/highway) in general?

Check to make sure the intake is clean and not dusted.

Assume you will need a transmission and figure that into the purchase price. I assume any vehicle with an automatic transmission and over 100K miles will need it fixed sooner then later.

I would do a compression test or have someone else do it to make sure the engine is good because a rebuild is $4,000.

If the fuel filter has not been changed (see a repair slip for proof) figure on spending $300 to have a dealership to do it if you do not do it yourself. I have never done one on a van, but, I heard the van takes 4-5 hours vs. the 1/2 an hour for the trucks.

Check the ball joints and steering linkage for any slop. If no receipt for shocks, the van will surely need them. The suspension will be too stiff to do a proper bounce test and the only way to test them is to take them off the van. Which at that point, you might as well replace them.
