The E4OD on my 94 F350 started shifting hard into 2nd and 3rd a few days ago.
It seemed like the less accelerator I gave it, the harder it shifted. It shifted from
3rd to OD just fine.
Last night it stopped. It was shifting fine on me all the way home, nice and smooth. I have checked the fluid and its fine. Any input from you guys would be greatly appreciated!
Throttle Position Sensor sounds like a good place to start. Make sure you get it properly calibrated if you decide to replace it.
Check your tach and your speedometer. The signals the sensors provide to the tach and speedometer are also used by the tranny controller. If either the tach or speedometer are acting up on you once in a while this will also cause tranny problems.
Ok guys. So I call up a mechanic (from a business card that was a referral), and I ask if they are capable of adjusting my throttle position sensor on my truck. He asks me if my check engine light has come on. I tell him no. He said he would be glad to take my money, but if the check engine light has not come on, its just fine.
Do I need to get another opinion? I did notice I dont even have a check engine light. At least not one that works. I turned the ignition to on and i get the ABS light, Brake light, Battery and seatbelt. When I turn the key to ingage the starter, a few more come on, Water in fuel, Engine temp, fuel filter. But no check engine light. And by the way, it started shifting hard again tonight on my way home. Help...............
PS. Tach and speedo seem to be working fine, no jumping around or anything like that. New tach sensor about 20k ago.

Reason: need to add
I bought a 91 brand new with the e4od it done the same thing. They told me the same thing it went out all I had was 1'st and reverse. 42,000 miles. all I can tell you is good luck!
Thanks so much for all the help. Today I did three things to try and solve my problem. I dropped the trans. pan and changed the filter. Next, I put in new fluid along with a qt. of Lucas trans additive. And 3rd, I adjusted my TPS using the specs that PCL sent to me. Thanks PCL. I got it to read 1.2 V at idle and 3.98 at WOT. It now shifts like new, what a relief......
Again, thank all you guys who replied, I believe you were all on the right path.
