Abs & Gear Problem?
The ABS lit off and on for the next several days and I had called my mechanic to have it looked at by this coming tuesday. So I continued driving, "Ole Betsy" I call her, on little short trips all week long with no problem until this past saturday....all hell!! broke loose. I was on all little stretch doing about 55mph ABS light came on and with my foot on the gas the truck was slowing down and the engine racing, ( as if out of gear).... I pulled over and shut down like before, but when I started up again, I could only move in the low gear (is this a trans problem,I thought?) Well I limped home, stalling traffic behind me for at least the next five miles. There's more I could say, but hope this was not boring.... Will fill you in after my shop visit.

The symptoms you describe are very consistent with those of a fairly common problem: a bad rear ABS speed sensor. This sensor is located underneath the truck, mounted on top of the rear differential. An inexpensive part and pretty easy to replace (1 bolt).
If your Ranger is an '00+, there is another possible issue that can cause almost identical symptoms: water intrusion at the electrical connector located underneath the driver's seat. See: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...2&postcount=10
