I must say, that there are A LOT of lazy American folks. A lot of the jobs that Mexicans take are ones that us Americans don't want to do, mainly because of pride. There are people out there who would rather not work to support their families, yet live off the government, because they don't want to flip burgers at McDonalds. I mean come on folks, money is money, reguardless of how it's earned. I wire houses every day, but on some weekends at the farm, I'm shovelin hog manure, or shoveling rotten corn out of a gravity wagon because the guy who owns the farm is too nice and takes rotten corn off of Champaign Landmarks hands (The local grain store.) Needless to say, I smelled HORRIBLE when I got home, but I had money in my pocket.
I agree with Bassproguy. I work at Jiffy Lube in a city where minorities are the majority (if that makes sense). I too have noticed what Bassproguy said. Alot of the older (30's-40's) mexicans (don't know whether or not they are here legally) that come in in their work trucks can barely speak any english, yet most are pretty cool. We have quit a few regulars that cant hardly speak english but in the time they have come to our shop have learned what they want done to their truck and all of our names. All around hard working men.
Then you have the ones that were born here and grew up in a town like the one I work in, living off their parents very hard earned money (what little there is), and get in with the wrong crowds, and cause trouble.
I really did not like seeing the highschool kids protesting, cause I can almost guarantee they dont know what they are really marching for, and just wanted a day off school. Also, if they want to be American citizens SO bad, why are they waving the Mexican flag? It would convince me more if they waved the American flag, or better yet, wave both side by side? I dunno.
I don't FULLY understand what is going on, but
1) I am all for a legal Mexican, language barriers aside. (As long as they try to learn the language). As long as they keep their kids out of trouble and in school, and as long as they don't take advantage of welfare and are law abiding citizens.
2)If you are here illegally, as far as I am concerened, you do NOT have the right to be here and neither do your kids. Therefore you are not protected by the Constitution and do not have the right to protest.

I dont much about how immigration is done, the paper work and such, but what about middle eastern immigrants? Some of those are the people to wonder about giving out papers. I have yet to see a hardworking middle eastern, like i have seen with Mexican..
Then again, I think middle eastern immigrants come for FREEDOM, not work. Well IMO they need to work to have that freedom. I find it quite disturbing seeing a somolian "student" in my school drive away in cars when while in class they aren't even meeting the basic standards to pass the class...and its really not that hard to pass a class in highschool. These immigrants need to spend less time on achedemics then owning thier own car.
I must say I am impressed with how everyone here has been handling themselves over such a touchy subject. Give yourselves a pat on the back. I read the title to this thread and thought "That one will be shut down in 5 posts MAX." So far we're almost to 20 and ya'll are doin good!
Funny thing is, I see older folks on these boards get in very heated debates over stupid things, and us young kids are keeping our cool! What a way to show em up!
wezol5484.. you are right- with out a US citizenship or green card they are not protected by the constitution.. meaning they dont have the right of a speedy trial, the right to bear arms, etc... when you think of it.. they dont have any rights, lol... I actually think it is good that spanish is becoming widespread in America.. having another language will do America good. Most countries have at least 2 languages. Canada- french and English, Then Gernamy has 3-4, Countries in africa each have 1 or 2 plus the tribal languages...
I know down in south texas, ranchers just shoot them if they come onto theyre land without permission. Dont know how legal it is but when you leave no witnesses to testify how can u get in trouble!! I think thats cruel though, even if it is kinda funny! Anyways, Chad, im with you there i figured wed be argueing like old men but IMHO were probably the ones who are affected the most by this, well at least in texas. Theyres been mexicans just walkin out of school, and protesting, and even vandilyzing the school for this stuff. No fights yet, but its bound to happen where I live theres two groups that dont get along, blacks and mexicans, and every little thing that happenes to the mex. they blame it on the blacks. At least We aint gettin inolved!! I dont aree with u hunter on the spanish part, sure its good to know because theres a lot of spanish speakin people here, but why does it have to be the language to the south? We could just as easily speak french, its more of a romance language anyways good with the ladies!!! Im biased though, most of my dads side is french and german and my moms is portuguese but i mostly hear port.
I have worked with and have seen them work. many of them will work 65-70 hours a week just because they dont have anything else to do. I am all for allowing Immigrants coming in to work, but they need short term papers, and have to be out at the end of their time period.
I agree... but with all the red tape, I cant work 65-70 hours a week, or I FREAKIN WOULD!!!!!!!!!!!, during the summer...
Why is it easier for an illegal to work long hours then it is for me to work at all???
Somebody needs to cut alot of red tape

Ya, way to go guys. I felt the same way as Chad. I thought I would have to lock this thread a while ago. But, you seem to be acting mature. Congrats guys!
Truth be told, I saw more illegals in Cali than I have here in TX. But I'll say one thing: My ma came here LEGALLY from Austria (not Australia, my Mom's from the place with mountains, skiing, and beer instead of kangaroos and poisonous snakes) and she has NO tolerance for illegals. I have to say I was raised the same way by both my parents. I do think immigration is a good thing - hell, that's how my Ma got here - but for god's sake, do it legally! I would support raising the number of immigrants that can come over every year, but hopefully we'd do something about our own borders first. Mayby try some more border patrolmen.
Borders are put together well.. Infrared cameras tell how many people are in a vehicle before the driver is questioned about how many people are in the vehicle... I dont think there is a efficient way to better the borders.. a wall, maybe, but that would cost alot...
I've heard that somewhere down along the border there is a big sign that says "come to MN the welfare state" We have alot of people from mexico up here, and the population is growing. I wonder how many are actual legal immigrants. There are so many of them that come into the gas station where i work and cant speak english. I agree on the jobs too. I applied at a parts store, didnt get the job, went in like a week later, and there was some new person working there from mexico. He hardly knew what a distributor was. I suppose that they figure he'll work for cheaper and longer hours, So why not.....
