I can hardly believe after numerous trips to my mech. and having auto junk pull my codes my mech. finally found the problem on my 93, Ranger. I have worked on this truck for years and replaced the 02 sensors twice but I was unaware that there were three sensors on the 3.0, I was told before by some in the know that there was only two so I did not go any farther.Family and I go to see the mouse in Orlando and i leave truck with mech. after a week of trying to pull the proper code they happen upon a third 02 sensor that is rotted away and shorting out whenever it moves. Problem solved. I had tested the other sensors and could not find it. Auto junk was pulling codes for bad MAF or temp.sensor, not it .Now the truck is fine, I hope this might help someone else who has a cel light on and cant find the answer.
I am not real sure because I have not been under the truck to see but my manual shows that there is one behind the dual cats and two on the exhaust pipes coming down from both heads. I had replaced these two before but was not aware of the third one. I did not read my manual very well and would have known of the third one. I had my exhaust redone about 7 yrs. ago and my exhaust guy had relocated the third sensor.Hope this helps.
I talked to my mechanic today and he told me it wasnt a third o2 sensor he replaced it was a ect( engine coolant temp) sensor, he had made a mistake when he was explaining it to me.I crawled up under the truck to see this morning and I could not locate itand then I saw upon further examination that the ect sensor had been replaced and called him to find out. Sorry if I have caused any confusion!!!!!!!
