I miss having a Tachometer

So I recently purchased a 99 F150 XL . It is a sweet work truck with 4.6 and automatic, but has no tachometer.
I really miss being able to see how fast the engine is spinning at various speeds and loads.
I really do not want to mount an add-on tach, so was thinking about getting a boneyard dash display that has a tach and swapping the instrument cluster out.
Now, can anyone tell me if the tach wiring needed is already in there, and will this just be a plug and play swap?
On a side note, if I swap the dash unit, what will I need to do to keep the original mileage readings. Is it stored in the speedo unit or just a display driven from the computer?

Thanks

Hmm...I thought all the automatics had tach's? My '97 automatic has one, but my uncle's '99 5-speed doesn't....

I thought this kind of stuff was more package and/or option dependant.
I know when I ordered my 91 explorer, the only way I could get cruise control on an XL was to order it as part of a package that also included tilt steering wheel. Power door locks required an entire power package of windows/seats/ et al and as such I could not get just the power parts I wanted, with the other configuration(s) I wanted. At that point, an XLT package that included everything was the only REAL viable available option, but it precluded some of the other things I was looking for, so I just passed.
