What HP did the 351 factually make, 210-230 sounds right but i want to be certain, i have a 77 f150 with the 351 and i was just wondering. Me and my friend dropped a 460 rv motor in a 51 dodge car and it fit like perfect i mean you couldn't ask for a better fit, course all the old iron crap on the front end didn't help much but its all good, we did have to cut the fenders but other than that it fit nice, we also subframed the car with a 79' i believe, camaro front end, i know its alot of work but dang its going to be worth it!!

Hello- Welcome to FTE! Check out the list of tech forums we have on FTE. There is a wealth of information and expertise here to help you. There are a number of links in my sig below to help you also. Have fun!
No, it's SAE net hp, measured with the water pump, alternator, air pump and fuel pump installed. The good news is the cam is a good one, all you need to do is install a new chain and set the cam to a 'straight up' setting. BTW, if you monkey with the EGR, you'll need a new distributor.
You can probably get over 200hp with a little tuning of the stock parts.
amazing what they could do to a v8 back then eh? smog gods needed a sacrifice.
No kidding! Especially considering 161HP was the most HP a 351M ever made stock!
So you need to do something to the dizzy when you remove EGR? My EGR was removed by the previous owner... I wonder if the dizzy was aver changed? It is a facotry dizzy but how would you tell if it was modified?
Comparing apples to oranges does not compute... Pay attention to what you are quoting, there is a difference between gross and net HP. The rating systems changed in 1972.
Replacing the carburetor on those old sluggish 351's can make a big difference with response and power. I am amazed that Ford only was able to squeeze 161hp out of 351ci, must have slacked on the R&D with the new emissions of that time. Sure allows you with a lot of room for engine tinkering, lots of potential!

Not sure who you are telling this too or what your trying to say. Would you elaborate more? As far as I know since a 351M wasnt made until 1975 they were only ever rated in SAE NET power as indicated by pcmenten and indicated on bubas site.
