question on one-wire altenators?
I recently hooked up a one wire alternator on a friends car (not a ford, sorry). I've noticed at first starts up at idle, the dash volt meter only reads 12v. Only after you rev the engine above 1800rmp is when the v/meter jumps to 14v. My question is, is this normal for one wire type alternators? Is this how the field is turned on by a predetermined rpm or is this alternator defective. I'm new to this type of alternator so any replies are greatly appreciated.
