I have a '77 non egr 460. There is something(sorry not sure what its called) screwed into the back of the intake manifold. It has two vacuum ports on the passenger side(one goes to my transmission modulator) a big port at the end and a single one on the drivers side. My question is, what does the vacuum line from the drivers side hook up to. The only vacuum diagrams I have been able to find only show engines with the egr. If anyone has this same engine or just knows where to put the vacuum line I would really appreciate it, trying to figure this out is driving me crazy. Oh yeah don't know if this matters but the carb is a motorcraft 4350 and the only vacuum line going into it is from the ported vacuum switch. Thanks for the help.
You should have a vacuum canister in between the battery and the heater core. The purpose of the canister is to supplie vacuum to the a/c system while you are at WOT.
Thanks. I found the canister, it does have a vacuum line coming from it that goes into my firewall and I guess inside the cab. I have looked all over this engine and cannot even find another vacuum port for it to go into. My only thought is that it might go into my carb, I have two ports capped off, one on the top front left and another on the rear right. Oh well, the truck runs fine, might just be an extra useless line. I just don't like not knowing what everything is suppose to do.
My best guess would be the brake booster but with out the vacuum diagram don’t know for sure. But like I said if I was there I would put my tester in the line at the manifold driver side and sure there would more then likely be a plume of smoke coming out of the brake booster. And that would tell you what I find out daily by using this tester for leaks and tracing vacuum lines and that’s just a few of the things this tool can do for you. And that thing the lines are connected to is a vacuum tee.
