I have an E series utility body with 5.4 engine and 5 speed auto trans. I have taken it to 2 different Ford dealers with the same concern.
My problem with it seems to be when coming to a slow stop, or creeping along in traffic after getting past 3rd. gear. The trans will give me a sudden "bump" just before I come to a complete stop pushing me further ( slightly ) on the back bumper of the vehicle in front me.
The second issue is that the transmission schedule seems to be confused between gears to choose as to upshift or downshift going thru this transition, accompinied (SP?) by a thunk in the driveline.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!
oper2nyst, The mechanic claimed that he could not duplicate the same symptoms I described. There is about 2,000 miles on the truck. I should also mention that it has the tow/haul mode and you do hear "more" gear whine with it in either of the 2 settings.
Clubwagon, The second dealer said I should give it about 8 to 10,000 miles for everything to break in and adjust. I would say that I can get it to do it about 60 percent of the time. I know that my next visit will have to be a ride along with the mechanic so I can replicate my concerns.
I have owned and driven about 10 different econolines in the past 14 years, and this is a new one on me.
u could try disconnecting the battery overnight so the tranny can relearn and i would go underneath to look for loose electrical connections to the trans
