TC lock up - manual switch?

TC lock up - manual switch?
Been researching my E4OD tranny and find some of the diesel guy websites offer a switch kit to provide manual control over the lock-up of the torque convertor. What's the theory and logic for wanting to do this?

I guess you know that when the TC is locked you have direct drive to the trans, no slip. It's nice to be able to lock it when you what to, say ,if you're in traffic that's moving about 20-30 mph, the truck is MUCH more responsive to the throttle w/ it locked. Feels like a man. trans. If you have a 4x4 it's nice to lock it in low range.The slip in the TC is the major source of heat in the trans., so w/ it locked up the oil stays cooler.
