at a junk yard they want $200 for a perfect chrome grille. my question is this is that to much money and would a grille like that fit with no drilling or other modification
There wasn't a "chrome" grille option in 1968. One could either get a bright aluminum or a painted steel. So if you are truely looking at a chromed grille, it is not original.
It is a 1970 f100 I want to put it on
I am not sure if it is chrome for sure because I have not seen it yet, a freind told me about it and he could be wrong.
The 68 and 70 models used different type grills. They also used different type turn signal lenses. I have two 70 grills. One in fair to good condition and one in very good to near perfect condition. Let me know if interested.
67-69 grilles are among the hardest parts to find for the 67-72 trucks. The most rare are the bright aluminum ones that came on Custom Cab and Ranger models (base models got painted steel ones). It's extremely rare to find one in good shape. Very good to excellent used originals tend to sell for $150-400. I got extremely lucky about a year ago and found a NOS 69 Ranger grille that I got for $440, but that was a bargain price.
If this place has a 68 aluminum grille in very good to excellent condition, $200 is probably a fair price for it.
Some guy is trying to sell a refurbished 68 grille on ebay right now, and his "buy it now" price is $1,000. It's not worth anywhere near that much, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the bids get close to or even over $500.
just an opinion but I think you would be more pleased to go with the 70 model grille. I don't know about everywhere else but around my area I see less 70 models than any other from say....65-72. To me the 70 model grille is cool and unique.

He had a bid of around $550 a week ago, but that didn't meet his "reserve." I can't believe it, because looking at the pics, the grille is all scratched up and is definitely not NOS like advertised.
