I have a 67 4x4 F100 that currently has the straight six and four speed. I want to swap out the six for a 390 that I have. I'm just wondering, are the engine mount towers different from the six to the 390, and if so, does anyone know where I can pick a set up from.
Yes, they are different. You will need some out of either a 360 or a 390 truck. You can find some at the junkyard, which will be cheaper, or I think you can buy new ones. You will also need a different accelerator linkage and a bigger radiator.
Thanks for the info. I figured they were going to be different. I'll have to see if I can find them somewhere, I've been looking, but no luck so far. Thanks for the heads up on the accelerator linkage and radiator!
I also have a 67 F-100 4X4 with 4-speed. Mine had a 240 straight 6 before I did the engine swap. My project was a little more involved than yours probably is so I don't know if this will help. I upgraded to a 1994 351W. I had to go to the junk yard to find some engine purches that would work. If I remember correctly, mine came off of a 76 4X4 truck. NOTE: 2WD truck engine purches do not work. the 4WD frame is different from the 2WD frame. Anyway, the 76 purches were still not a perfect fit so I had to do a little bit of work to make them fit properly. After they were in the frame, the engine dropped right in. There are some photos in my gallery of the 351W installed in my truck, but you cannot see the purches.
Good luck with your swap.

Thanks for the info beast! I'm going to have to start digging through some more salvage yards. So far, the only trucks I've found are either two wheel drive, or four wheelers that were six cylinders! But, I'll look at the later 70's trucks to see what I can come up with!
