transmission swap on a 3.0

Will a manual transmission from a 1996 2.3L Ranger work with a 1993 3.0L ? If not, do I have to get a manual transmission from a 1993 3.0L donor? What other years will work if not? Will I have to swap the computer or anything else?
Thanks,
Bob

Nope.

You need any year 3.slow specific tranny, but after 97(?)model, you'd need to swap the tailshaft to keep the cable driven speedometer as needed on 94-earlier models. 95-97 trannies still used a tranny speedo gear, but it was electronic. 98-later had no such provision in the tailshaft, but they had better innards, from what I've heard.

I assume you are swapping from a slushbox when you ask about he computer. 94-earlier computers do not control the tranny in whole, so you can use either computer with at least the stickshifter. Even slushies can be run with a manual tranny computer, I believe...before 95, that is.
