pto winch

i have a 79 bronco with a 351, c6, and np205. i'm looking for a pto winch for it but can't find one. does anyone know if there is one for my bronco or if all are a universal fit? also, about how much would one be. thanks for any help.

why? reason i ask is if you are in a jam and the motor wont start with an electric winch you could still get yourself out. with a pto the motor always has to be running.

try ebay

pretty much because i've heard they are cheaper and can pull 2-3 times as much as an electric winch.

They will pull harder the more you rev your engine, and are much stronger than a electric winch, but like kemical said, if your engine won't start your stuck.

What do you plan on useing your bronco for? Rocks, mud, ???

Mud can drown out an engine that is not sealed properly really quick. If the engine gets water in it or in the ingintion, it wont start and your screwed.

People tell me to put a winch on my truck, but I can't justify spending that much money on somthing I'll never use(I mud ride in fields all the time, and there isn't a tree around to winch too)
It's up to you on setting up a winch, but if you don't have anything to winch to, then it's useless.

i've had my truck, 85 f150, in deeper than i care to remember. its been in lakes, rivers, really deep mud. i haven't had problems with it though. i haven't tried this bronco yet. only thing i don't like is its carbed and not efi like my truck. so most of you are saying stick with an electric?

Well MBB, you don´t need a tree to pull yourself out, most of the times someone goes mudding just for fun there are several other trucks around, you could pull yourself out using any of them.

P.D.: Stick to an electric if the winch isn´t mean to work (like in a crane).

Encho, IF I get my truck stuck, I will need alot more than a unstuck truck to pull to. I've seen other trucks just like mine stuck and contected to a unstuck truck, and the unstuck truck just gets pulled to the stuck truck every time.

reecem13, you can try asking a question in offroad forum, electrical, hydrolic, or possibly pto.

I agree!, i meant that you could tie your winch to any of those trucks to pull yourself out, as you said the winch had no use if there weren´t any trees around.

just an idea for the field mudding. i just saw on the history channel how the marines used to pull their DUCW s out of the sand using their winch and an anchor that they burried. might work in the mud too. who knows? maybe a big anchor would be perfect

96eddie5.8, that would be the only thing that would work, but it is a big messy process, and I'd rather have one of my buddys pull me out(quicker and easyier, but if your alone, and you have a winch and no body to help, then the anchor are a spaire tire would work.
