This just started, when its cold out my van or me will shift to first gear,N for about five seconds then shifts into second fast.Once it warms up every thing is fine. Now that its not as cold out it feels like its not down shifting untill i come to a stop.R.A.S.A.P Thanks.
check fluid level and vacuum modulator...depending on which trans u have look for a vacuum hose that connects to a valve on the trans, unplug it, if there is fluid then it is leaking...cheap and easy fix, usually just one bolt
Thanks guys,I had the transmission flushed and new filter put in.They also added a treatment.Very nice,no more slip.I could not find the vac modulator. Is it on top of the transmission? My only problem now is i get ping while shifting gears. If i keep the gas pedal half way i will get less ping.Any more then that and it starts to ping then the engine light comes on.I also get less ping with a heavy load in the back of the van.I put a code scanner on the computer and it said EGR valve not opening closeing. The EGR is only a year old.Another bad new part?Wow that three new bad parts ive bought in less then a year.I do need help with the pinging. Thanks
Most likely your ping is caused by the EGR. Its a common failure. Typically, too much EGR flow makes for a weak mixture and causes ping. With a heavy load, more throttle opening lowers vacuum and increases fuel/air volume relative to EGR flow.
Pull your codes, the fact that the engine light comes on indicates there is a failure somewhere. Pulling the codes will tell you which component was in the wrong position.
The EGR was bad.I put a new one in last friday. The engine light dose not come on any more, but i still get a little ping.I noticed a little puddle of fluid under the transmission, and i can see fluid on the pan.Should i wrench the bolts on the pan a little tighter?I checked the fluid level and it shows a little over full.I had a shop flush the transmission.
Check the pan bolts. They should only be snug. Overtightening will crush the gasket and cause a worse leak or strip the threads in the case. Use some brake clean to spray the trans clean, drive it some and then re-inspect to see where the leak is coming from.
Pan bolt torque should be no more than 100 inch/lbs. If you paid someone to flush the transmission and they had the pan off make them fix it. If the gasket is something other than the original type cork gasket, good luck on fixing a leak at the pan. If the pan bolts have at sometime been overtightened the pan flange may need to be flattened around the bolt holes.
