Some jerk stole my cherry unibody doors out of my driveway, 10 feet from my front door. I know, my fault. I left them out because it had started to rain and I couldn't make room for them in my garage while it was raining. I came home from work the next day and someone had come up my driveway and glommed my doors.
They were rust free, dent free, original paint condition.
I have a feeling these are very hard to find in this condition.
Has anyone seen a pair of cherry uni doors?
I found a VERY straight '61 Custom Cab longbed uni. It's been sitting a long time so I figured the guy would want to get rid of it. He wants $3500. Too much for me to pay for a truck that needs a ton of work.
It's been confirmed by a neighbor, the local scrap guy took my perfect doors and sent them to the squisher.
I'm gonna wait til next trash day when that guy comes back around and I'm gonna fix his legs for him.
You might be able to salvage them from the scrap yard. If you know where he takes his scrap, you might be able to get the guys down there to catch them when he brings 'em in - 20$ for a finders fee kinda thing. Might even be sitting on a pile there. Ya never know...
You gotta be kidding me instig8r63, The trash collector actually Stole them from your driveway on pick up day?
I dunno about in Chatsworth CA, but here in the Bikini State they cannot enter your yard to remove anything. They're strictly limited to Curb Side area a City/ County has them contracted to pick up in. The contractor has to make good if you can prove that's what happened.
Whatever Man, don't get "Sad" get even, get made whole again.... stealing is stealing and that's all there is to it.

Legally, he cannot go on my property. I wasn't home, so he did. It just happened to be on trash day that I left them out. They were well onto my property. He hed to take at least 20 steps up my driveway to get to where they were. I've seen the guy before, with appliances, hot water heaters and metal on his truck. I don't believe he's a legal citizen, otherwise why would he need to sell scrap.
What really makes me sad is that I paid $1000 for the entire truck to get those perfect doors and they wound up going to the melter. I don't think I'll ever be able to replace them.
He probably got $10 in weight for those doors and I'd have given $1000 to get them back.
He also took a very straight drivers side door for my '72. I really don't care about that one, I paid $40 for it and I'll be able to find another.
I don't think I'll find a set of unibody doors as clean as the ones I lost.
I'm keeping an eye out for that scrap guy.
He'll be scrap when I get done with him.
I'd call the local cops and report the doors stolen. The cops probably are use to seeing the guy load up with junk and may even know him. You need to put out an "APB" at all the scrap yard to save those doors! Most scrap yards have a guy to pull the "good stuff" aside. Good luck!
You migt wanna just find the guy and explain the situation, he may be in good with the scrap yard. Maybe you can get the stuff back,, offer him a few bucks to make it happen/ you never know - cash on delivery?... then break his legs LOL "jokin"
