Cool 4x4 Problems?

I have just bought my 2000 PSD a couple of weeks ago and I have not had a chance to check the 4X4 until today when I needed it the most. And I dont need to tell the rest of the story. This was not very smart on my part, since I should have checked it before I bought it. I need all advice on how to check the possible sources of my problem. Is this a common failure on these trucks? I love this forum by the way. You can come to experts first. I been telling all by friends who have PSD's to check this site out.

Sorry, I should have been specific. The 4 wheel drive in not working period. The truck acts like it just wont go into gear. I am not hearing any kind of noises from the truck. I am thinking it may be the electrical switch in the dash? dunno

Could just be a fuse. Is the 4x4 indicator light on?

Have your front hubs been changed? May not be locked.

When you say locked do you mean turning the hubs into the locked position. There are two positions on my hubs. One says locked the other says automatic. Mine are in the automatic positions. To me this means I should have the 4x4 anytime I switch it on in the cab. Should I try locking the hubs manually?

Yeah, try manually locking the hubs and see what happens.

Now I definiately know I have one problem. The right front hub will not turn to the locked position. Do both hubs have to be locked for the 4x4 to work or will only one wheel be locked in and no 4x4

When your truck goes into 4x4, can you definiately tell. What I mean is when you turn the wheel to sharp does it want to hop, skip, and jump for lack of better terms?

Sounds about right. Be carefull turning on hard surface, that jumping, hopping is damage waiting to happen. As far as you hubs go, it is not unusal to have a selector stuck. Comes from not using them. A lot of folks have replaced theirs with Warn Hubs. Did you dedide if you have 4x4?
