Pertronix

I recently installed the pertronix Ignitor II in my 72 f250 390 Camper Speical. It's running good I'm running a stock coil and have a flame thrower II on order. The problem is when I start it it seems for about 2 to 3 seconds it's not firing on all 8 clyinders. With the point set up the truck started right up just turn the key and wham running. With this set up it takes about 5 second to start. It also has a rough idle in drive @ 550 or so RPM's. I've tryed to adjust carb but it made little difference. It ran a little smoother but there was a slight pause at the starting gate, I would step on the pedel and wait a second befor truck moved. It runs great when going down the road it has a noticeable differance in HP. Any help would be appreciated.

The pertronix unit needs 12V at the unit to function properly. YOu need to eliminate the resistor wire and run a good 12V off of your ignition switch. One reason why stock coils don't work so well. I don't know how long it will last at 12V.

I have Pertronix in two of my vehicles, soon to be three. I use the stock resistance wire. I do not believe that is your problem. I would make sure the gap is correct inside and that all connections are good. As soon as my units were installed, the engine immediately started up. so much better than the point system!
