Question 1...Does the VIN number indicate whether or not the truck is a step side or regular bed.
Question 2...Was the 1981 to 1986 F100 a popular truck? I am looking for any year stepside with a manual transmission 2wd.
Question 3...Can anyone recommend a web site to help locate this particular truck?
I'm looking for anything that is salvagable. A friend had one and sold it to his brother who proceeded to trash this once beautiful truck.
Answer to Q1....I don't think the VIN will tell you what kind of bed the truck has. I didn't notice it in my book.
Answer to Q2....The 81-86 F150 was a more popular truck than the F100, but that's JMHO.
Answer to Q3....Just do an internet search for what ever truck you're looking for. Maybe those places like Autotrader or even Ebay or Craigslist.
There's a few online buying sites, but I can't remember the names.
You don't see as many stepsides on the roads from the 80-86 generation. I live in the Nashville area and, besides my A/T 2wd, I've only seen one other from those years in that body style and it's a 4x4.
It wasn't located in the VIN: number. It however was located in the Vehicle Compliance Certification Saftey Lable, on the door pillar, just below the door striker bolt.
It's one of the codes in the three boxes that say body type. One is interior color, one is standard or super cab, and the other is for flare or styleside, IIRC.
