Rear end

I have a 51 f1 and the original owner jacked the flathead so im using a 78 302, what i am wondering is what rear ends were options in those trucks and will they work with a 302 and c4? If anyone knows PLEASE let me know i need to get my drive train in soon to get my parents off my back.

Your best off w/ a standard FoMoCo 9" rear end from the late '50s.

The original Dana will do fine if it is there and functional. You probably have a 3.73:1 or a 4.10:1 rear end in your truck and I suspect it is the 3.73:1. There should be a tag on there somewhere that tells you or gives you the #of teeth on the mating gears.

Anyhow, there are other options but if you need to get the drivetrain together to get your folks off of your back, the stock rear end will do nicely. If you think that it is geared too high, find an AOD tranny.
