The President

Ok get this yesterday I have to go down town to the hanger to help with a big inspection, so I get to the gate at Skyharbor Airport and card my way in, wait for the gate to close and go around the hanger. And there is more cops than I have seen in years, so proceed slowly through them and go into the hanger to unload my tools. I asked what was going on and was told that President Bush Sr. was coming to Phoenix. So I walk back to the door to see Mr. Bush getting out of the plane, not 1 minute after I had drove between his plane and the police brigade. How cool is that to be with in 20 feet of a president? Oh yeah I took some pic’s with my pos phone camera and can’t send them out.

haha awesome.
I have some friends down at Baylor Univeristy and they had whole blocks and buildings baricaded off and snipers on the roofs when the president was there. some of them had to walk all over the place out of the way to get to class. The closest I've ever been was a presidential ralley the first time he ran for President.

Some years ago, when George Sr was president, he came to little Allentown, PA airport, where I was working at the time, in his 747. Pretty impressive plane for that tiny airport.

As it was getting ready to leave, I figured I'd get some great pictures of the takeoff. I took our deicer truck, got in the basket, and extended the booms to max height, about 45'. As the airplane was taxiing for takeoff, a PA State Police helicopter hovered in right above me, about 20' away. Over the noise of the chopper, I heard the PA horn say "EXIT THAT VEHICLE NOW!!!"

I swear, I could feel the red sniper dot aimed at my friggin head, and darn near jumped out! But they were kind enough to let me lower the booms, exit the basket, and high-tail it into the hangar.

It's no surprise I don't really want to see anybody important nowadays.

That is very cool!!! I know first hand..

I was standing about 15 feet directly in front of Then President Bush when he came to Raytheon during the 1st gulf war. He came to Raytheon after all the press that the Patriot Missile system got.. I saved all the papers, News show and pictures from that day.. Good one to tell the grand kids when I have some...

I haven't met a President yet but, I have met 3 Prime Minister's and I once sat beside and ate dinner with Prince Albert of Monaco in 1988.
He is now the Boss Of Monaco.

Apparently we have the same haircut now.

About the closest I ever came to seeing a president was at the goodyear car show. I saw then President Clinton driving by in his campaign bus. Everyone went to the fence to see him, and he opened a window to wave. Pretty cool, but I wasn't as close as you guys.

I also saw AF 1 coming in for a landing at Nashville, that was pretty cool.

Back in 92, President George H.W. Bush started his "Campaign by Train" in my hometown, and the depot just happened to be across the street from my grandmothers house. We were lucky enough to be about 10 rows of standing people back from the podium. and back a couple years ago, current President Bush had his motorcade wind around some country roads around Lake Geneva WI on his way to Janesville to I believe tour the GM plant there. It was a pain because my sister in law's mother had just passed away that morning and we were on our way to the house to be with the family and had to convince the local authorities and secret service that we needed to get around the roadblocks for that reason.

My Uncle had to inspect an elevator for President Bush 43 and got to meet him. Pretty neat deal!

When Bush visited here last May, it was the first time a 747 had ever landed in Rochester, so we weren't familiar with the plane's capabilities, let alone the "extra" performance of Air Force One. When the plane took off, it wiped out a bunch of the blue runway lights, and most of those yellow/black runway marker signs. Oops.

When he was here this month, he was in the airport for a couple hours, meeting with people. Did you know that if a President is on airport grounds (not necessarily on board his plane, but just on airport property), NO other air traffic is allowed to land or take off? It was the middle of the afternoon, so few flights were affected, but what happens if he's at O'Hare, LaGuardia or Hartsfield? What a nightmare THAT has to be!

I can certainly understand it though. For any President.
