After sitting all winter I attempted to start my truck to bring it home with no success. I started it up on saturday to let it run before I drove it 100 miles back to my house. It ran ok had alittle miss but I figured it was from sitting for in the cold all winter in storage. So on sunday morning I go to fire it up and it just cranked. Got it to sputter a few times, but it wouldn't run. I guess from cranking it and the choke being on, I flooded it. Because gas was dripping from the exhaust.
I figure I will need to change the plugs which isn't a bad thing to do anyways, and I will have to check the oil to make sure it isn't filled with gas.
What could the problem be? I was thinking just the choke being on to long, but also stuck floats in the carb.
I just want to get it running right so I can drive it again.
Just remove the plugs and clean them, if they are not too bad.
It could be a stuck needle valve. Just hit the carb with a rubber hammer a couple of times before you try to start it to dislodge any gum in the needle valve. If it doesn't start right away, tap it again.
If it still doesn't start check the spark. It takes a while to flood, but a good spark should start it right away.
On saturday it fired right up with a couple of taps on the pedal. It ran ok, but had a little miss. The next day it just cranked. I got new plugs anyways.
What are good plugs for a 400? I have always used autloit or motorcraft plugs.
Make sure you have spark before getting involved in chasing your tail. Always do the simple checks first. Make sure you have spark all the way to the plugs. Make sure you are getting fuel through the carb, which you are, but be sure it isn't full of water.
