I'm tossing around the idea of finally lifting my 2000 PSD Superduty...only about 4" or so...
There is a place near my house that installs tons of truck accessories including lift kits. I dropped in there today for grins to get an estimate on an install. For a Superlift 4" lift (2 springs and LIFT-BLOCKS) is $1,450....plus $500 to install...plus alignment, plus SHOCKS! Don't shocks come with the damn kit? Well, to make a long story short, we're looking at $2,200 installed. I'm not the brightest guy in the world but that seems like a rip-off...MAYBE if it was 4 leaf-springs instead of blocks...but I saw the same kit WITH shocks for under a grand in Four Wheeler magazine...
Anyways...that's my rant
Now, I would like to find a cure...LoL. Is there anyone from this site that is also from the Chicago area that could direct me to a reasonable shop that sells and installs Lift Kits? And which one should I choose? I'd kinda like to keep it under $1,400 if possible...Bear in mind I don;t really 4-wheel this truck ( I have a '78 F-150 for that ) So lift blocks in the rear is no prob..
My buddy just did his F250 2002 4" Rancho I think the lift was 600 and then he needed shocks, install was a breeze if you have any tools try it yourself.
How big a pain in the neck is it to do myself? I got a 5 year alignment so re-aligns are free....so that saves 80 clams right there ! the truck's only 6 years old...so shouldn;t be TOO much trouble to get the old parts off, right?
Scott, what shop did you go to?
I would def keep looking.
You could always look online, find the right kit, ask a lot of questions here and get a idea what others S/D owners have and recomend.
I am thinking about a Donahoe Racing 4.5" lift kit and will probably take it to Heavy Metal performance in Plainfield.
The shop is owned and run by Ron and Nick Ritter, they are GREAT!!!!
I have bought stuff from them for my 2002 and Ron is a former Ford mechainc at Joe Madden in Downers Grove.
give him and call and get some prices and install quotes,
BTW, I work in Lisle and if you want to chat
stop by anytime

Coolbeans... I'm in Aurora, just a couple towns west of ya...
The shop I went to is Custom Auto Sounds and Truck Accessories in North Aurora on RT.31...they got a mess of cool stuff...but talk about PRICEY!
Where is the Heavy Metal Performance shop at in Plainfield? I get out that-a-way pretty often since my cousin lives out there...
Scott, I am familar with them, just as far as I have seen their shop.
Another IL S/D owner, Dave Senones had a SKYJACKER 6" lift installed there, he seems to be happy with it, his only complaint is that he has to get them to replace the shocks they use, cheapy skyjacker shocks keep rusting out and going bad, leaking, etc.
HEAVY METAL PERFORMANCE is located just off CATON FARM rd, east of rt 59
I am looking for a lift too, I would like to see your rig!
def join the IL chapter!!!!!!!!!

OH...By the way...If you're a Diesel Burner...The Meijer gas station on RT.59 , a half mile north of Fox Valley Mall has had Diesel fuel between $2.45 and $2.49 for the last few months...That's the cheapest place I've seen in 100 miles! Its the best kept secret and I hope it holds!
Sounds like a ripoff to me. Out here in socal if I go to 4wheel parts I can get a 6 inch superlift and 37" procomp xtreme all terrains for like 2800.00 out the door installed. But I have a buddy who is openeing a shop soon so that price will be even less
Thanks for the Info Toy Hauler...I'm gonna have to check out that shop in Plainfield next week....My Superduty is going in Monday morning to get the O-rings for the Turbo-pedistal and HP Oil lines...if the Turbocharger isn;t going bad (which I hope like hell it ISN'T) the O-ring switchout will be under $100 ! The shop is in Aurora if you need a diesel wrench...Do you know if Heavy Metal Performance carries turbocharger goodies? i.e. aftermarket turbo housings and wicked wheel impellors? if so, I might have that stuff thrown in while the mech has the turbo off!
Anyways, thanks again for the help...I owe ya a beer!
the lifts are really pretty easy to put on as long as you have some tall jackstands and a couple jacks. I put my 4" lift on in my driveway by myself in about 8 hours, that included eating and running to home depot to get some bolts that didnt come with the kit but i wanted to replace. I think the hardest part is getting the pitman arm off the steering box, if you dont already have one, borrow or buy a pitman arm puller.

You seemed to have gotten this handled, I paid 2200 for a 10" superlift with shocks, new front steering stabilizer- the whole setup! I live in Texas so I know it's no help but just showing that they are WAY high on their prices! Good luck!
