Guzzle's Service Manual

Hey all,

Been searching for info on Service manuals and ran across some posts
praising a fellow FTE member by the name of "Guzzle" (?) and the wonderful instructional posts he has put forth.

Where can I locate this plethora of info, and is he accepting donations
for his hard spent time?

I am starting to have issues with my truck (2002 7.3) and I am loosing all faith in my local mechanics and dealerships, so I guess I need to roll up my sleeves and start doing it my self .
The old saying is true.......if you want something done right...

Anyway, any info on those posts would be great.
Thanks.

G

Thanks for the response Guzzle92

First and foremost is a fuel leak that is increasing.
I think it is the Fuel pump and/or the fuel lines.....unsure.
At this point, I don't think it is the fuel filter area.

I found a good post on how to remove the turbo to expose the fuel pump area (which is needed for CA models?),
but after that, it's all greek to me. I see posts with discriptions on what to do, but the words and acronyms (I printed the sticky I found on acronyms) throw me. I'm a visual person, and a picture is worth a 1000 words.

Eventually I will be getting into upgrade's and such but the fuel issue
is a "Must do now". And While am in there, I figure I should swap ALL the o-rings that seem to go out.... Fuel filter/water seperator area, Turbo pedastal,
Fuel pump junctions, etc.

Any help is most appriciated.

Thanks!

The fuel pump is located under the drivers seat, mounted on the frame rail.
If you have fuel running down the back of the engine, it is most likely the fuel rail port on the rear of the passenger's head. It's a real bummer to try to get to but if you are planning to remove the turbo, it's much easier. Any of the fuel connections on the top of the engine could leak, run down the valley and out the hole in the valley at the rear of the block. If your leak is in this area, suggestion would be to clean the engine off very well, start it up when dry and look for the source.

The leak is as you say, at the top of the engine.
Fuel is running down the back of both sides of the engine at this point.
It sure is tough looking under all that stuff piled on top of the engine
to find the actual location. I will be spending Saturday looking and taking notes.
Get my list of parts needed up front and see about taking this job on.
I just can't afford much down time, so I want to get all my parts ready
and limit my "oops - I forgot that" factor.

I got lucky. I had a leak when I bought my truck. Puddle in the valley. Black as all get out. I replaced the fuel filter and snugged down all fittings and good to go. Errr, except for that pesky turbo leak I noticed while installing my exhaust recently. Not bad, but annoying nonetheless. Probably O-rings. I will address these when/if I ever finalize my regulated return system.

OK, we're narrowing it down to the top of the engine. There are a number of places where you could have a fuel leak on the filter bowl as Tenn01 said. Most of those fittings do not have o-rings and would only require a little tighting. One of the biggest problems with the 7.3 fuel filter leaking is the yellow water drain valve that can be seen at the rear of the filter. It has 2 small o-rings that can begin to leak and make a mess on the top of the engine. A mechanic or dealer will want to sell you an entire fuel bowl assembly but Black Cloud Diesel Performance has just the o-ring replacements. You can find a link on the left side of your screen to his site. The other place would be the fuel connection on the drivers side fuel rail. It is located on the inside (valley side) of the drivers side head towards the front of the truck. It does require a factory o-ring. There is always the possibility that you have chaffed a hole in a fuel line but that is rare.

It may look crowded at the top but a garden hose and some simple green on a barely warm block will do wonders to see things better. Check out the fuel filter assembly after removing the 'powerstroke' cover and keep us posted as to what you find. There are lots of guys here that can help you out if you get stuck.
