Speaker issue-has us stumped!!
I have a '93 Explorer. The rear passenger speaker keeps popping and buzzing, but it's not engine noise. This is the only speaker making the noise. It is random, but very irritating. The noise does NOT go off when the stereo is turned off. Ford says they're not sure (surprise)! Any ideas???

Probably some power wire is causing it. To test, take a speaker, any one that you can get your hands on (dosen't have to be in the truck, just and old speaker will do here), and rig a 12v battery to the leads to hear it pop. If this is the sound you're hearing in the truck, only louder, then you definately have a 60hz interference, meaning that some power wire in the rear is causing it. Could be any number of things, like power door locks, or wiring for the rear tailgate. To narrow it down a bit, does the popping ever happen with the truck off?

just a real basic question.... have you tried another speaker in that location (i.e. any cheesy old one) to confirm that it is not the speaker itself. If the voice coil were shot for any reason it could make noises like that as well.
who needed it anyway?
