supernats visit

Firts time getting to the Super Nationals in Knoxville this year. Don't like to make reservations as I go and wondered if I might get stranded without if I take a chance. Would be ok even if I had to go to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg to get a room. Are reservations mandatory to get a room or only if you would like to stay at a particular location?

Hi Joe,

you could probably find 'a room' somewhere along the interstate at an exit close by... but I know a lot of the close good hotels are booked already. The show location is not in the nicest part of town so a little travel is required. Since some folks are quite content with a "no-tell hotel" and others need the amenities...it all depends on what you want/need for the money.

There are several good hotels at exit 388..Best Western, Hampton, Baymont and others... some might still have rooms

P.F and Gatlinburg are 30-45 minutes away and while there are lots of rooms but, there is also a tri-5 Chevy show that same weekend in P.F. I would think you'd have a better chance finding something in the Sevierville/PigeonForge area than closer to the show if for no other reason, there's more rooms!

Gatlinburg is another choice but another 20-30 minutes drive time depending on traffic, and it's beyond P.F. and Sevierville so you have to drive thru those two everytime you come and go. Traffic in all these areas is resort area traffic and can be bumper to bumper all day on the main drag.

If all you want is a bed and a reasonably close meal... I'd stay on the West end... Seveirville/P.F. and back toward the freeway.

you might also consider Maryville and Kodak... a little further out but a nice scenic drive...

do a little googling on the area and you'll find something..

hope to have helped
John

Thanks John,

Kind of what I expected. We are not fancy people so I am sure we can find something along the way. Just don't like to get tied down with reservations if they are not necessary. See you there. Joe

I bet that if you are an individual looking for a room, and are not being real picky as to price you can find one. You might end up in a $80/$100 room, but I bet you can get one fairly close. I have done this at various events and many times stayed at the host hotel. Did it once in Louiville at Street Rod Nationals where I was told it was impossible. Many folks register early for these events, then things change and they cancel at last minute. I would start close to event asking for a room, then work my way away from it. Good luck. Joe

Dittos; it'll be worth the trip, plus you should put $30 or so aside and buy the DVD of the show, which will be mailed to you in 3 months or so, and all those memories will be rekindled.

By the way, for those who have never bought the DVD/VHS of the show, you should consider it. They are well done, and you'd be surprised at the ideas you can get for your truck on a cold winter night by replaying them.

I've bought one every year since I first went in '98, and it is interesting to note the trends coming and going, even in so short a time.

Do those videos happen to be closed captioned? I seriously doubt it, but it can't hurt to ask.

I am sort of in the same situation. I can't make reservations yet. Its totally up in the air if I am even going to get to attend. It will probably come down to a few days before it starts for me.

My ending up sick and off work for two weeks put a major kink in plans. Hopefully, this weekend I can start working on the truck again.
