i am going to be getting the hella dual air horns from summit and i am wondering about what psi the compressor that comes with it is capable of. i was thinking about running an air tank in my tool box with a pressure cut off switch at 90 psi. i plan on air lockers later on and that is what psi i have read they like and that is what my impact wrench is reccomended at also. if i can use that compressor as onboard air then i think it will be the best $40 i could spend right now.
I think you may be asking a little much of a compressor this size. Not sure what the PSI is, but I pretty sure it's far less than 90. Besides the PSI you need to take into account the CFM of the unit. Air horns take very little CFM whereas an impact gun could require 10 times the flow. The other factor is that these compressors are designed for momentary usage only. I've messed with these little guys enough to know that running them for more than 10 seconds at a time gets them suprisingly hot.
I just bought a compressor and impact wrench and you are going to need a lot of capacity. The impact wrench said it needed something like 6 gallons minimum storage and something like 5cfm at 90psi. An air horn compressor might be able to fill up the tank over a long period but it won't be able to keep up once you start using the air tools.
I was tempted to by a smaller(3 or 4 gallons) compressor, but the guy and the tool instructions told me I would need a fairly large compressor. I bought a 10 gallon with something like 6cfm at 90 psi. And from reading that is just enough for what I want to do.
It isn't just the psi you need to look at, more important is cfm at psi.
Besides, this is a good excuse for new power tools, enjoy.
