Question 1994 F150 with AODE

I've got a 94 F150 4x2 with the AODE in it that I just bought a few weeks ago. I dropped the pan to change the fluid and filter and the fluid was pretty dark. There was quite a bit of fine metal (glitter like) all over the bottom of the pan (alot brass colored). Obvious excessive bushing wear. I imagine the previous owner towed with it in freakin' overdrive (3.08:1 gears in the rear and a 5.0L mass air motor). Anyways, what do you transmission guys think about being a good or bad idea to flush the tranny or drain the converter and refill with all new fluid? A local transmission place (Cottman Transmissions) said it'd be a bad idea because the new fluid would flush other metal shavings stuck to the sides inside the tranny around and put them in other places in the tranny where they shouldn't be such as the valve body. I don't know but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. To me I'd think you'd want to at least get all of the fluid out of the tranny and not just the amount that's in the pan.

BTW, it only has 72,200 miles on it.

on my 94 that specs out just like your and has 135k on it.i used a flush drove it for 15 miles around town to let all the valves in the valve body get cycled.drained the converter dropped the pan, installed a trans go shift kit and filled with new fluid.the inside of the pan was black from burnt frictions.but its been a year and 12k later and the trans is still doing fine.the flush is a cheap maint. repair it will either help or it wont.
