I was looking at purchasing a 99 Ford F-150 XLT Super Cab V-6 Automatic. How is the power on the V-6? Is it somewhat smooth? I am not planning on towing anything.
Lots of people like their V-6's, lots of people don't.
If you never tow or haul anything much it will probably be ok. They are resaonably smooth. The gas mileage doesn't seem to be much different than the 4.6L in these trucks.
Does anyone know what a 1999 Ford F-150 XLT Super cab with alloy wheels and full power would be worth? The dealer has it listed for $11,995....and Blue Book is only $10,200....I emailed the dealer saying the price was a little ....high $1800..too high....and havn't got a reply back yet. This dealer is normally very reasonable on used vehicles. Do you think its a mistake? It is in goon condition...minor paint chip or scratch every now and then...fairly new tires.... 69,000 miles.
I have another question. Is it even possible that the truck has keyless entry? I didn't know. It is a '99 XLT with full power. When I asked the salesman he just said "I don't know". Thanks.
11,955 is prolly a little high IMO, which dealers do start out high in most cases... Don't expect to be doing any dealing on the internet though.. your best bet would be to drive over there and deal with him then. My 4.2 I use to have would get up and go purdy good, even when I towed stuff(a atv) and a 16ft trailer with a old chevy frame on it, it would do ok. I doubt it has keyless entry, i have a 4.6L 99 F150 now and the keyless entry on it is aftermarket
I would look for at least a 4.6 V8. I have owned the 4.2L and although it was a reliable motor, it really does not have much power, and the gas milage is not that much different then the small V8. Mine would downshift alot when you tried to accelerate which got to be annoying. I now have the 5.4L V8 and once in a while I still drive one of the 4.2L here at work. The difference is major, and I would never go back to the 4.2L. If you don't mind alot of downshifting and don't plan on towing anything more than a couple of thousand pounds, go for it. Otherwise I would keep looking. Good luck with what ever you decide.
