breaking in a tranny?

breaking in a tranny?

if you have a transmission rebuilt should you break it in and does it shift a little funny at first....not that i got my tranny rebuilt and its shifting funny or anything.

well I think that it should be a little tight at first, but otherwise it shouldn't be weird. A brand new truck off the factory dosen't have a weird shifting tranny, so a re-build one, of done correctly, shouldn't either. as for breaking it in, I'd let it idle for a while at first to get all the fluid through the lines again and then drive it. At the very least the fluid has to cycle through the cooler and completely fill the torque converter. Top it off after this and you should be fine, if you did just get one back and were worried about such things.

If you are filling it, put 6 qts in, start it and add 2 while its running. Then check to see what level and finish filling it. There shouldn't be any sort of funny shifting at all, and as for break in drive it how you will be driving it. If something is going to fail don't you want it to fail running to the bank or store instead of pulling your boat 300 miles away from your house?
