box sags
box sags
I have a 68 F100 on which the box sags on one rear corner. The truck needed shocks all around and I was hoping that this would fix the problem but it did not. The trucks rides some better, but it is not as "tight" as I would like it and as I mentioned, the box still sags. The leaf springs have no visible damage, but I have no experience with those so ...
Also the coil springs on the front of the truck each have 2 "spacers" I guess they would be called. They are metal and bolted together, it looks like they were designed to limit the expansion travel of the coil. Anybody know what these are for? How does one tell if the coils and/or leaf springs need replacing?
Thanks

As you've discovered, shocks don't support the truck, they dampen the spring bounce. Get your truck on a level area and pick points on the frame(same point both sides) to measure height from ground. Compare from side to side. Your rear spring(s) is probably fatigued and won't hold it's arch any more. Probably best to change the springs in pairs but you can probably find a good one at the wreckers for now. Do those 'spacers' on the front pull the coils together? Maybe someone was trying to pull the front end height down a bit. If they're pushing the coils apart it sounds like you'll need new front springs as well.

I think I will replace the springs. I read on a post in here that it's possible to put F250 springs on my F100. Good idea? Bolt up? If so, what years?. I'm looking for a late 70's parts truck to do the drum to disk I-beam swap, could I use those rear springs? How 'bout the front coils while I'm at it?
What do you think?
Thanks!
