Transmission advice needed

I am a long time reader but this is my first post.
I just recently picked up a 75 F150 with a 390 and a 4 speed. I don't much care for the 4 speed and planned on doing a c4/c6 conversion. After searching this site I see so many people doing the opposite conversion. Why? Am I a fool for wanting an automatic. Why are so many of you wanting to convert to 4 speed?
What is the benefit?

Also can someone dirrect me to a page with info on converting to a automatic?

Thanks in advance for your help...

better fuel economy with standard. you need to find a fe case c6, then you need the flexplate, and bolt in. You will probably have to change out driveshaft yolks not sure on this one or not. Easiest way is to find a parts truck and grab your stuff off of it. And that should be easy to do since alot came with c6. Or might get lucky and find someone local wanting to swap to 4 speed and trade your stuff for theirs and probably make some money too.

Don't forget the required pedal assembly and all affected parts.

What pedal assembly? All he has to do is remove the clutch pedal when the standard tranny gets taken out, right?

Do what you want. It shouldn't be hard to find the parts, FE C6 tranny, torque converter, and flexplate. You probably will have to work up a tranny support bracket though, and you will probably have to plumb in a cooler for the tranny as well. You probably don't have a tranny cooler in your current radiator, if you don't, do what I did in my hot rod and what alot of others do, all you have to do is mount a large stand alone cooler on the front of the radiator. I have had no problems with this and my temps always stay in the 160-180 territory.
