The belt tensioner is cutting a rib from the fan belt on my 92 Ranger with 2.3 auto a/c, p/s. With the belt off it looks out of line one way but, with belt on it cuts the rib off of belt on opposite side of what you would think. Does the whole tensioner get worn or just the pulley? Anyone else had this problem?
i had this exact problem with my moms 99 taurus, we replaced just the pulley and it still did it, then i changed the whole tensioner and that was the problem. it was $60 for the 3.0 in the taurus
Changed belt tensioner and it works great. The old one had seperated about 1/8" where it pivots. Had a hard time getting torx head socket on bolt to remove, had to remove fan and shroud to get enough room to get ratchet on socket. Thanks again seth1.
ya no problem jrfateranger, i was happy to be able to help you with that so you wouldnt have to go through what i did (change the water pump, exchanged the already new alternator for another one, replaced the pulley on the tightener and the idler pulley)
HELP anyone..... I have a 97 f150 4.6, serp belt keeps getting an outer rib sliced off. I changed the tension pully and idler pully and engine has a new water pump, belt was doing this before these replacements and after. and now noticed that at the AC the belt looks like it wants to come foward a groove off the pully almost like the ac is offset. I tried to move the pully on the AC with my hands to see if it would wobble but could not get it to move not saying it wont but i couldn't get that good of a grip on it. anyone know of this problem AC works excellent no noises or other problem with belt.
