How fast when OD kicks in?
I'm getting killed on mileage and wonder if there is any way to change the shift points of this thing. It doesn't lock the converter until 50MPH at the earliest. Slightest change (slight grades, hills, or easy feed of fuel) it kicks down to drive, second on steep hills of interstate.
I suppose I should take actual notes of what speeds it is shifting at, but it seems to me like it wants to be going a bit faster than I think it should before it shifts. My #1 dislike of auto's (no control of shifts), but I could not pass this truck up. It's no dog
, so why is it shifting at higher speeds? Is it just the way they're made or could it be some other problem (VSS or TPS?)? Can either of these be going bad and not cause the check-engine light to come on? I've unhooked the battery for over 2 hours, so that should have been plenty of time for the computer to reset.

The way to change the shift points is the change the computer program that controls the transmission. There are programmers and chip makers that can do that. I don't have a specific recommendation for any of them, but I've read there are several that can do what you want. Search the forums and you should get your answer.
