Okay, took 2.5 hours to install my by-pass Oil Guard filter.
Most of that time was spent trying to figure out where to put the darn thing.
For those that have them, where did you install the by-pass filter?
Mine ended up on the out side of the frame rail about 12" to the rear of the drivers leaf spring mount. (rear mount).
It hangs down to low in my opinion. (It's not lower than the running boards)
Seems like it would take a nasty hit if something flew off of the front tire.
Mine's also mounted similarly. Ouside of the driver's frame rail, just opposite the fuel pump. I mounted mine at a little bit of an angle for extra clearance. I worry about something big hitting it, but the body and mount are pretty tough metal, so I think they'd be ok. I have pictures of how mine's mounted in my gallery.
You should see extra mileage out of the oil changes. But, you'll want to run a used oil analysis between changes to check the status of your oil. The UOA will also tell you if there's any other stuff in the oil (coolant, fuel, etc...) which gives an early indication to a more serious problem, before it becomes threatening to the engine's life.
I just mounted mine today. I used a piece of angle iron and mounted that on the inside of the frame rail in front of the fuel pump. I then mounted the oil guard to that. It is very close to the stock filter and up out of harms way.
