I have an 86 BII that I just installed a rebuilt trans in. When the trans is in lockup, if you leave off the throttle and get back on, it comes out of lockup into od then back into lockup. Is this normal operation or am I having ECU issues. My other trans initially did not do it but, about a month before it expired it started acting like my new trans does. Any help would be appreciated.
On my '89, if I give it more than a little throttle, it will come out of lockup as a downshift of sorts. I notice when I have the cruise control on, it will stay in lockup alot longer, even when pressing hard up hills.
It operates fine that way. My question is at highway speed, if you leave off the throttle and then apply the throttle again lightly, it will be back into overdrive and then shift back into lockup. I understand that lockup is electrically controlled so the computer will tell it when to be locked up and when not. I have not owned my BII very long and now suspect that the old trans was going bad since I owned it so I am not sure how the trans is supposed to act.
Am I safe in assuming this is an A4LD and not an AOD? If so, the only thing that is controlled by the comp is the TC lockup. Shifting is mechanical/hydraulic in that trans.
It is normal for the TC to go out of lockup when you apply the throttle, but it shouldn't necessarily shift from OD to 3rd unless you're really getting on it.
Yes it is an A4LD. Thanks for the info. I believe now that it operating normal. As I had said before, I wasn't sure if it was normal because my origional trans was messed up from the time I purchased the BII. I am only familiar with the later trans that is computer controlled.
