You should be able to do that without too much trouble, but those P's require a special header because of the spark plug placement. You might have more trouble with getting headers to fit.
i had now trouble with the headers i modified the ones i had and they worked great, i've already put the heads on the truck, the reason for the post is that somtimes it has an iratic idle and dies, and then it'll run fine sometimes, i'm trying to figure out what could cause all this, my tranny is shifting funny too, which i've never liked it since it was put it, it's really lazy. I'm trying to get around a MAF conversion cause it costs way too much, and i have an E40D and you can't exactly find a conversion. But if you have any sugestions what is causing my idle problem, man i'm all ears, i've cam close to strikiing a match to the truck, lol.
Do you get any trouble codes? Have you run the KOEO and KOER tests? (key on engine off, key on engine running)
I've heard of quite a few people running SD systems and switching heads, intakes, etc and it working ok - the main concern is the camshaft and how it affects the vacuum since SD is vacuum dependent.
i ran the codes, and it had evp voltage too high, and thermoacter system, i have no clue what either of those are. Now i do not have a smog pump hooked up, i did away with it and plug the vacum lines that went to the AIR diverter valve. Another thing i noticed is when you unplug the SPOUT connector the truck won't idle at all. So it won't run without any advance. Can u tell me anything from those codes. I think i may have a faulty computer, but i don't know. My dad is a mechanic and i've tried to get him to look at it, but since the hurricane down here he hasn't had anytime because he is a mechanic for the power company here. But i'm trying to figure it out. I don't believe i have any vaccum leaks, unless the intake didn't seal off when i put it on. Any other suggestions? Man i really appreciate your help.
The symptoms sound like a bad TPS (throttle position sensor). I don't think I'd worry about the MAF conversion. The SD computer is a little more capable, and with the E4OD finding a MAF computer can be a pain. I'd check the TPS. Also make sure that you're igniton key is returning fullt to the ON position, this is another common problem that will cause those same sypmtoms.
EVP is the EGR valve position sensor...it's the sensor ontop of the EGR valve which is mounted to the top of the upper intake manifold. This sensor tells the computer what the EGR's position is. You could have a stuck EGR valve, bad EVP sensor, or wiring problem. This shouldn't cause the problem you're talking about but it's something to fix.
The Thermactor system is the air system for your emissions equipment. When you took the smog pump out you caused this code. Are you still running a cat converter? If so, you need that smog pump and a functioning thermactor system.
That system pumps air into the exhaust stream for the cat converter to work correctly. It doesn't really affect power, removing it is only an appearance deal.
Have you checked/set your initial timing? It should run just fine w/o the SPOUT connected.
Put a timing light on it and check your timing - set it to 10 degrees BTDC.
